Latin America

Latin America

Latin America is the collective name for the countries in the Americas where Spanish, Portuguese or French is the main language.  It includes Mexico, most of Central and South America and Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico in the Caribbean.

Mexico is the 3rd largest country in Latin America, after Brazil and Argentina and it has the largest Spanish-speaking population in the world.  Visit Mexico for fascinating archaeological sites from ancient civilisations, beautiful beaches, wonderful food and amazing festivals and celebrations.

Central America includes El Salvador, Costa Rica, Belize, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.  Costa Rica is the most visited of the Central American countries but tourism in Belize and Nicaragua has grown in recent years.  Tourists to Belize may enjoy the second largest barrier reef in the world, fishing, diving and watersports, wildlife reserves, caving, archaeological sites and a trip to the Great Blue Hole, a giant marine sinkhole with a width of around 318m and a depth of around 124m.

South America is made up of twelve independent countries: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Guyana, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, Venezuela.  Brazil is the largest in both population and area.  Spanish and Portuguese are the most widely spoken languages.  Western South America is dominated by the Andes mountains while the East contains both highland and extensive lowland regions, where the Amazon, Orinoco and Paraná rivers flow.  Most of the continent lies in the tropics.  So, whether your burning desire is to hike the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in Peru, marvel at the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, take a cable car trip to Sugarloaf mountain and be in awe of the Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil or just enjoy the beaches, food, nightlife and a tango or two, Mondial Travel will create a magical holiday for you.

Caribbean Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Haiti and Puerto Rico are the independent Spanish or French speaking islands of the Caribbean.   Of these, Cuba is the most established tourist destination, well known for its stunning beaches, colonial architecture, UNESCO World Heritage sites, Havana, rum, cocktails, cigars, music and vintage American cars.
